Languages and Intersectionality

My diverse background has allowed me to approach my work in more nuanced ways. I have always found that learning a new language is the easiest way to adopt new paradigms.

  • Three languages natively (French, Spanish, and English)
  • Learned two additional languages in university (Persian and Urdu)

Volunteering and Mentorship

  • During the pandemic there was an excess demand for access to mental health services. As someone who could speak multiple languages, I was privileged to volunteer mental health respondent for 7 Cups where I provided non-judgmental insight to users and their families in other countries, experiencing the pandemic in different ways. Having the opportunity to hear their stories, maintaining a five-star rating, I was grateful to see the positive impact I could have on others and support them in their preferred communication format.

  • I coached researchers from a range of disciplines at Building 21, empowering them to narrow their search to perspectives which are most relevant to their interests.

  • Facebook nominated and then introduced me as an economics content moderator to mitigate economic disinformation. I am responsible for ensuring the group has a positive impact on users.

Humour and Social Change

During my time at McGill I found that people are interested in economics, they just need the right perspective. I designed a game to teach economic concepts using economics jokes.

As a content contributor, my economics jokes also won multiple awards for growing the economics community on Reddit during the pandemic. It is my hope that one day everyone can feel empowered with a basic level of economic literacy and have a positive relationship with their economic context.
